Birchcroft - hideaway

A Dorset self-catering cottage with Hot Tub, set in woodlands with stunning views

- sleeps 8 - family friendly - nature lover’s secret hideaway – accessible accommodation with all the Covid safe cleaning and sanitising facilities – Good To Go and Safe2Stay - Visit England Rose Award 2022.

Birchcroft nestles at the end of a winding lane, surrounded by rhododendrons in over an acre of land and enjoys walks into the local woodland. This beautiful chalet bungalow offers ground floor bedrooms and bathrooms and is large enough for two families. All rooms are of a good size with a particularly large lounge. Step onto the ample terrace and enjoy breath-taking views of the local landscape, with Longham lakes in the distance. Wildlife including deer, foxes, rabbits, and many species of birds are often seen in the garden.

For the children, there is a large rear garden laid to lawn but the boundaries are unsecured and lead directly into 19 acres of woodland.  There is now a children’s playhouse with a toy kitchen, table and chairs, badminton set and football table, etc.

Though secluded, Birchcroft is only 6 miles from Bournemouth beaches and all the town’s facilities, has an ample supply of excellent pubs and restaurants in walking distance, as well as many well-known golf courses [Parkstone, Ferndown, Isle of Purbeck].

“You can walk to The Angel Pub through the woods at the bottom of the garden but remember a torch for the return journey!”

Birchcroft has been awarded Mobility 1 & 2, Hearing 1 and Visual 1 – for part-time wheelchair users as well as people with hearing and visual difficulties. We have a wet room with wheeled shower stool, hospital style profile bed, electric single bed, electric stand-up chair and a loop system. We have flashing smoke alarms, vibrating pillow and a personal alarm. There is a new ramp to the front door and a turning circle for cars.  The paddle staircase to the first floor is not suitable for those with disabilities, but we have 2 downstairs bedrooms, one with an extra wide door to accommodate a wheelchair. For Walkers and Cyclists, we have many facilities including Ordnance Survey maps and secure bike lockable points.

A great new facility is our TouchStay app.  This adds to our Covid safe amenities and allows information on local area leisure facilities, restaurants, pubs, shops, National Trust properties, etc to be easily and safely accessed from your phone as well as operating instructions for items in the house and where necessary codes as well.

"Where the country meets the sea and history abounds"

I'm Mum to 4 children with 2 grandsons. I run a self -catering and student let business in Dorset and enjoy life. My husband Richard and I are re-building a barn conversion in Cornwall so I drive around the country a lot. I am a member of Redruth Rotary, Bournemouth Tangent and The West Hants Club. My life is very hectic but I enjoy being constantly on the go and computers. Birchcroft was my family home and was designed and built by my father, a water engineer. After my parents passed away, as a family we decided to let other people enjoy it as much as we do and hence it became a holiday home. My assistant Mary Pidgley has worked for me for many years and she now organises the cleaners, etc that keep Birchcroft running smoothly while I organise bookings and future projects. Her husband Mike is the gardener and you will love their dog Rufus who thinks the garden is his alone! If the TVs don't work we call son James and if something else needs fixing we call son Simon. They are identical twins so you might get them mixed up! Birchcroft can give you an unique holiday experience from walks in the grounds, beautiful sunsets and a wonderful playground for the children
